Local, seasonal produce we can’t wait to cook with this autumn
After our busiest summer on record – something we’re absolutely not taking for granted and are incredibly grateful for during these challenging times – we’re looking forward to the slower season.
We’re lucky enough to enjoy a wealth of delicious seasonal produce all year round on Anglesey and in Wales. Our job? To source the best local produce we can find and turn it into dishes your tastebuds will remember long after you’ve left the restaurant.
Scallops
From the beginning of November, Barry Griffiths — one of our local fishermen who fishes out of Cemaes Bay — will be back out dredging scallops. Perhaps we’ll pair them with a pumpkin sage cream sauce for a real taste of autumn, or even an apple cider glaze…
Apples and blackberries
Karen, our restaurant manager, has been out foraging blackberries once again this year. They quite literally couldn’t get more local if we tried! And 2026 has been an excellent year for the humble apple. Did someone say crumble with vanilla custard? Or maybe we should bring back the apple gel we pair with our homemade sausage rolls, in time for the next farmer’s market. Who’s in?
Sam’s turnips
Sourced from Llysiau Menai, our trusted vegetable supplier in Llanfairpwll. Lots of people struggle to cook with turnips, but we like to make the most of the bulb and the leafy greens. Pickled, as a gratin, in a soup… the possibilities are endless!
Leeks
We do love a leek here at Catch 22 – and not just because we’re a proudly Welsh restaurant. Also sourced from Sam at Llysiau Menai, we’re looking forward to pairing these local leeks with Barry’s catch of the day, and perhaps our cheddar and leek croquettes can stay another season...
Wild mushrooms
The vegetarian and vegan menus are in for a treat as some of the best wild mushrooms come into season between September and November and Real Fun Guy Mushrooms has us covered. We’re thinking proper winter warmers – mushroom risotto; ravioli; a stew. And who could forget the crispy mushrooms in our ramen noodle dish?
